What's Next After High School?
Gretchen Rubin's Four Tendencies Quiz
I'm a big fan of best selling author Gretchen Rubin. I created this Storyline project based on her Four Tendencies quiz. This project features a branching scenario, and variables for both the quiz and to capture the learner's name.

Craft a Healthy Smoothie
I created this Storyline project as part of a variables challenge. In this project, the user selects fruits for a smoothie. Each time a fruit is selected, the calories, grams of carbs, fats, etc. increases accordingly, and the total number of fruits selected increases, until three are selected at which point the user is to select other ingredients.
Special Government Employees Ethics Training
This Articulate eLearning challenge was to give an online government training course a makeover. It actually needs a complete overhaul, but due to time constraints, I changed very little wording. I removed extra wording that did not add value to the course. I added a table of contents and allowed free movement within the course, both of which was lacking in the original. I chunked information, I added illustrations specifically to aid the learner in understanding the concept. I included a knowledge check at the end. The Home Buying Process
Progress Meter-Articulate eLearning Challenge #60
Once you find the perfect house, the home buying process can take roughly sixty days to complete. Having worked in the mortgage banking industry for decades, it's still in my blood. In this eLearning challenge, I made use of an unconventional timeline using a picket fence graphic that changes color as the timeline progresses.

Greetings from Milwaukee
I have been hitting local rails-to-trails bike paths where we live in southeastern Wisconsin and Chicago. One of my favorite trails is the Hank Aaron. It is an urban trail featuring access to Miller Park (home of the Brewers), the Milwaukee County Zoo, the Pettit National Ice Center featuring an Olympic ice rink, State Fair Park, the Harley-Davidson Museum and so much more. It's such a fun way to see Milwaukee.
So, for the Articulate eLearning Challenge #86, Interactive Map-Where Do You Live? I created a Hank Aaron trail map with interactive buttons that hit the highlights. Come visit. Stay for the State Fair creampuffs!

Comedy Sketch Writing
This is my project for Articulate eLearning Challenge #202-Drag and Drop (2018). It's based on the book Improvisation for Actors and Writers, by Bill Lynn. Full disclosure, Bill is my brother and one of my favorite people of all time. The book is loads of fun, and creating this project was also loads of fun.
Fun Chicago Facts
I'm a Chicagoan, born and raised. And although I live 90 miles north of Chicago now, it will always be home to me. In this eLearning challenge, I gathered some fun facts about my true hometown, and hid them behind some interactive buttons. The buttons are the star of this show: simple circles with shadows, to which I added black and white icons. However, when the mouse hovers over the buttons, color is added to the icons and they are enlarged using "states". Click on each button to learn something about the city named after a humble onion field. Using Labeled Graphic Interactions in E-Learning Courses (2020) #283
Mountain Bike
Using Scrolling Panels in E-Learning (2020) #273. Here's how I used scrolling panels in this project. There's one on the home page, where you can scroll down to see all the links. There are also others on the individual bike pages, when descriptions were too long for the screen.
Volleyball Positions
Articulate eLearning Challenge: Using Labeled Graphic Interactions in E-Learning Courses (2020) #283
Labeled graphics are click-and-reveal interactions that let learners pull information when they need it. I built interactive markers by using a simple shape and a Storyline 3 volleyball graphic. I created a hover state (shape changes color when mouse is hovered over it). Then within the label, I included text plus video for a more immersive experience.

Summary-What is Zigbee?
There's nothing sexy about building materials. But it's an important consideration in the IoT (Internet of Things) industry, where smart devices must communicate wirelessly through walls, floors, and ceilings. This is an excerpt from a real course about designing the placement and installation of devices that communicate using Zigbee, a communication protocol that uses radio frequency. I chose this excerpt as an example of something I like to use in my courses: "Think About It" exercises in which the learner is asked a question he must answer not by simply regurgitating something he already learned, but by drawing upon what he has already learned to make an educated guess.
